To help you navigate the bridge between the Cape and the Karakoram, here is a quick guide to the words on our menu
Howzit! (How-zit)

The Universal Greeting. Short for "How is it going?" but it’s a hello, a handshake, and a smile all in one.

Sharp! (Shurp):

Everything is Good. Often said twice (Sharp-Sharp!).
It means "Goodbye," "I agree," "No problem," or "I’m great!

Ubuntu (Oo-boon-too)

"I am because we are." A beautiful African philosophy that reminds us we are all connected. In our cafe, it means every guest is treated like family.

Mzansi (M-zun-zee)

A Nickname for South Africa. A Xhosa word meaning "South" or "Down South." It’s used with pride to describe our home.

Madiba (Ma-dee-ba)

The Father of the Nation. The clan’s name for Nelson Mandela. It’s a term of deep respect and affection.

Jozi (Joe-zee)

The City of Gold. The local nickname for Johannesburg - the fast-paced, high-energy heart of the Highveld

Karoo (Ka-roo):

The Great Thirst. A vast, ancient semi-desert in
South Africa known for its incredible stars and quiet majesty - much like the high-altitude deserts of Hunza.

Chakalaka (Cha-ka-la-ka)

The Flavour Firework. A spicy, savoury vegetable relish that brings any meal to life. Our "Fire-Cracker" secret!

Vuvuzela (Voo-voo-ze-la)

The Sound of Joy. A long plastic horn blown at celebrations. If the food is Lekker, let the valley know with a blast!

Highveld (High-felt)

The Great Plateau. The high-altitude heart of South Africa where the air is thin and the spirit is big.

Slaptjips (Slup-chips)

Soul-Food Fries. "Slap" means soft. These are thick-cut, soaked in vinegar, and have a soft, comforting centre.

Lekker (Lek-ker)

Great / Delicious / Cool. The most important word in the country.
